Oriental Beauty (a literal translation of its chinese name, Dong Fang Mei Ren), is a Taiwanese oolong that is heavily fermented and withered, thus turning its leaves to a copper-brown. The tea leaves and buds are actually bitten and sucked by the smaller green leafhopper (Jacobiasca formosana), which is what gives this tea its distinct sweetness. Due to the need for these insects for the production process, this tea is grown at relatively lower altitudes as the insects thrive in warmer environments.
This tea is as refreshing as humid summers spent under the shade of a tree, watching the clouds pass and smelling the scent of ripe fruit that has fallen.
We recommend brewing this tea at 85°C for 3-4mins. This tea requires a longer brewing time to bring out its sweetness, increasing brew time in succeeding steeps. All our teas can be steeped multiple times, so please enjoy your brew for as long as you want.
