This specialty tea definitely lives up to its name as the first thing that hits you once you open the packaging is the strong smell of dark chocolate. This distinct chocolate scent is natural to the varietal and enhanced by careful processing. However, upon brewing this settles into just a slight chocolatey aftertaste as the malt and fruit notes take first stage. Jin Jun Mei is the name of the village that processed this tea.
This tea is quite similar to drinking a coffee, with its dark roasty notes underlying the sweetness from the fruit and cacao. This is an incredibly unique tea that is a wonder to brew for guests!
We recommend brewing this tea at 90°C for short steeps (45s - 1min) increasing brew time in succeeding steeps to avoid strong astringency or bitterness while bringing out its natural fruity and malty flavors. All our teas can be steeped multiple times, so please enjoy your brew for as long as you want.
